Therapy Approach:

Above all, I relate to clients in human terms. I am not a guru from on high who knows everything, but rather I want to collaborate with my clients, and be a safe sounding board for them to process their thoughts and feelings. From there, I want to offer my insights and suggestions that might help them break out of some thought and behavior patterns that might be keeping them in patterns of distress.

I want my clients to walk away from a session feeling lighter, meaning that they allow themselves to feel whatever they are feeling without any internal resistance. I believe that people will stay in negative headspaces out of resistance to the fact that we might be feeling an unpleasant emotion. If we lift that resistance and allow ourselves to feel the feeling, it can run its course and no longer have power over us. From there, we can make lasting positive changes to our thoughts and behaviors

I believe in setting incremental, achievable goals, and that any step forward in one's goals is worth celebrating. I will always meet my clients where they are at in the moment when we talk. My guiding question, no matter what state of mind my clients may find themselves in during our session, is "Okay. So now where do we go from here?" to encourage clients to maintain a sense of control over their feelings and what they choose to do with them.
